Eid-el-kabir: Muslims observe low-key celebration amid price hike

As Muslim faithfuls celebrate Eid Kabir , prices of cattle, ram, goat, chicken and other basic commodities in various markets across Lagos State and it’s neighbouring states have skyrocketed .
Newssight correspondent carried out market survey in Lagos and it’s neighbouring states, Oyo, Ogun other states are Ondo and Osun State.
Both traders and consumers have expressed huge dissatisfaction as a result of hike in consumables,which inevitably led to low patronage.
Increase in prices has lead to low patronage,which has affected Eid-El-Kabir Celebration.

seller at Kara, Opic in Ogun State , informed Newssight correspondent that sales has been low , he further attributed low patronage is as a result of subsidy removal. He further stated that this year’s sales can not be compared with sales of previous years.
Another ram seller at mile 12 Lagos, Ishola Qundus informed us that the prices of live stocks are determined by transportation from the north to other parts of the country.
In comparison of previous years sales, Qundus said ram which was sold for seventy thousand naira last year, now goes for one hundred thousand naira.The one which was sold for ninety five thousand naira last year, now goes for one hundred and twenty thousand naira.
Ngozi Madu, a rice seller at Ikirun market in Osun State informed Newssight that 50kg of local rice is sold for thirty two thousand naira, while the imported rice is been sold for thirty eight thousand naira
Other commodities which experienced hike in price is vegetable oil, five litre of unbranded oil which was sold for five thousand two hundred last week, is been sold for six thousand today
Tomatoes and bell pepper and the rest are not left out of the hike in price.
Nigerians have opted to buying tinned or sachet tomatoes with dried pepper. Onion is relatively plenteous in the market.

Abidin Aiyetoro, he said Islam does not compel anyone to kill cow or yam, ,rather you should do that which is in your capacity.
Transport sector is not left out as many passengers have been seen stranded at various motor parks .Nigerians travelling for Eid have expressed their grievances regarding exorbitant transport fare, this has lead to low turn out of passengers.
Similarly , motor parks in other parts of the country are facing same issue of low turn out of passengers.
However, Newssight observed low-key celebration amid the price hike – urge Nigeria Government to be swift in action to address the concerns of the citizen and ensure fair transport fares and affordable market price for the masses.
